F.A.Q.'s

Q:  What forms of payment do you take?

A:  Cash is king!  However, we do accept personal checks and credit/debit cards.  Unfortunately we are not setup to receive other forms of electronic payment (i.e. Venmo, PayPal, etc.).

Q:  How old do I need to be in order to purchase a firearm?

A:  18 years old for long guns (rifles and shotguns) and 21 years old for handguns.

Q:  Do I need to bring anything with me for the transfer?

A:  Yes.  You will need to have an unexpired government issued photo identification showing your current physical address (NOT a P.O. Box).  If your ID does not display your current physical address you can also bring another government form (i.e. vehicle registration, tax form, etc.) which shows your name and current address.

Q:  Do I have to provide my social security number?

A:  No.  However, providing this number on the form can sometimes prevent unwanted delays in the background check.  Rest assured, once the form is completed it will be stored securely.  There are only three situations when these form will ever be viewed or moved.  At the request of law enforcement secondary to an ongoing investigation, during an inspection by the ATF, or if the business closes in which case all forms must be relinquished to the ATF.

Q:  Why did I get delayed?

A:  There are a lot of reasons an individual might get an initial delay response from the NICS background check.  Most often it is because someone with a similar name has a criminal history and NICS takes extra care to ensure that the firearm is not accidentally transferred to a prohibited person.  However, there is also legislation that now requires all individuals between the ages of 18 and 20 to be mandatorily delayed.

Q:  Do I need to let you know before I order a firearm?

A:  No.  We do receive calls from people letting us know that they have ordered a firearm but this is not required.  We always appreciate a heads-up but we frequently receive guns without warning.

Q:  My tracking number says missed delivery.  What happened?

A:  Most of the time we are able to see incoming packages before they arrive so we try to plan our day so that we will be available to receive them.  However, some delivery services vary widely on their delivery times or we unfortunately missed their delivery attempt.  Fear not, three attempts are made before the package is sent back and we will make arrangements for its receipt.

Q:  What happens if I but a firearm and I am denied?

A:  No worries, we'll coordinate with the company you purchased from to return the firearm.  Be aware that some companies do charge a restocking fee which you will be responsible for.

Q:  Can I still buy a firearm even if I'm not from here?

A:  If your primary residence is outside of the State of Maine you may purchase a long gun (rifle or shotgun).  However, all handgun purchases must be done in your home state.  If you need help finding a dealer in your area that will accept transfers let us know and we'll help you find one.

Q:  Can I buy a firearm as a gift for someone?

A:  The ATF recognizes the gifting of firearms to immediate family.  However, for everyone else, the person who is receiving the firearm has to be present to fill out the ATF Form 4473.

Q:  Can I just text you instead?

A:  Absolutely!  Our main number, (207)491-5256 is suitable for calls or texts.
